Convert an OpenCart store to an app

OpenCart powers many long-running stores — some on themes from before phones mattered. Check that first.

Key takeawayPoint a web to app converter at your OpenCart home page. Older OpenCart themes may not be fully responsive, so test at 360px before anything else. Sessions and carts persist in the app, guest checkout works, and payment extensions that redirect to gateways need their domains kept inside the app so customers return to the success page.

Responsive check

OpenCart 3 and 4 default themes are responsive; heavily customised or very old themes may not be. If your store needs zooming on a phone, fix the theme before converting.

Carts and sessions

OpenCart keeps the cart in a session cookie. Inside the app, cookies persist between launches, so customers find their cart where they left it — test that a cart survives closing and reopening the app.

Checkout

Guest checkout reduces friction in an app. Test every payment extension; redirects to external gateways must come back inside the app.

SEO URLs and the start URL

With SEO URLs on, use the clean home URL. Avoid starting on a URL with route= parameters unless it's the page you really want.

Extras

Use bottom tabs for Categories, Cart and Account, and an offline screen for flaky connections.

Frequently asked

Does OpenCart have an app builder?

Third-party extensions exist; a web to app converter is the quickest route because it uses your existing storefront.
