Convert a BigCommerce store to an app

BigCommerce is hosted, so you can't touch the server — but you don't need to. Everything a converted app needs is in the theme and Script Manager.

Key takeawayUse your BigCommerce storefront URL as the start URL. Stencil themes such as Cornerstone are responsive; use Script Manager to add the app-detection script and in-app CSS. The optimised one-page checkout runs on your storefront domain and works in the app; test wallet buttons and 3-D Secure, and keep any external payment domains inside the app.

Theme

Cornerstone and most Stencil themes are responsive. Check faceted search, product option swatches and the cart at 360px.

Script Manager

In Storefront → Script Manager, add a script to all pages that adds an in-app class to <html> when the user agent contains ; wv). Use it to hide app download banners, the long footer, or a web chat bubble that clashes with native tabs.

Checkout

The one-page checkout runs on your domain. Card payments and 3-D Secure work in the app; some wallet buttons depend on browser payment APIs and may not appear inside a WebView — card entry remains as fallback.

Accounts

Customer login, order history and addresses work. Persistent sessions make reordering easy — highlight “Buy again” for app users.

Push and tabs

Add tabs (Shop, Search, Cart, Account) and push for order updates and abandoned carts.

Frequently asked
